Better The Devil You Know - Jimmy Hill

$5,800.00

Edition of 9

At first glance, a musician perches casually atop an eaten apple core—guitar in hand, body relaxed. But Better The Devil You Know is layered with tension and quiet symbolism: a signed contract rests near his foot, and his heart is nailed to the floor below him. This sculpture explores the emotional and spiritual costs of ambition, temptation, and the unspoken deals we make to pursue our calling.

Jimmy Hill transforms personal experience into allegory, using surreal and symbolic elements to speak to the artist’s journey. The apple recalls ancient temptation, the nailed heart evokes devotion and entrapment, and the title itself challenges the comfort we take in familiar struggles. With textured detail and deliberate unease, this piece invites prolonged reflection.
